Rules and Regulations for AUC Study Spaces
PURPOSE
• AUC provides spaces for the benefit of AUC students to study. Adhering to the outlined rules and regulations is expected.
• All students must follow AUC’s Student Code of Conduct when using University facilities.
• Failure to adhere to the Study Spaces rules and regulations will result in referral to Student Affairs.
• Study spaces are strictly for studying and academic work; activities such as sleeping, watching movies or TV shows, and playing video games are prohibited.
RESERVATIONS/CANCELATIONS
• Room reservations can be made through the AUC reservation system. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
• For instructions on booking a study room, log on to the library portal and go to the “How Do I” option on the top of the page or in the “Quick Links” section on the left side of the page.
• Use your correct first and last name and your AUC email address.
• Reservations must be confirmed by email within 15 minutes of receiving the link or the system will cancel it.
• Only occupy the study space during your reserved time.
• AUC reserves the right to decline and/or change a reservation at any time.
-For example, rooms reserved for every other half hour will be canceled.
-Consecutive room bookings separated by 60 minutes or less will be canceled.
• You must present yourself within 30 minutes of your reservation, or your reservation will be canceled.
• When a reservation is canceled or modified, an email is sent to the student.
• If you do not plan to fulfill your reservation, please cancel.
• To cancel a reservation, return your confirmation email and click the link.
• Repeated failures to cancel a room reservation appropriately will result in referral to Student Affairs and/or placement on the banned list.
• When your reservation ends, promptly vacate the space with your items/belongings. Leave the space as it was upon arrival to allow others to use it.
• Guests are not permitted to use the study space as the spaces are exclusively for the use of AUC students.
• The maximum time a study space can be reserved is 5 hours.
• Study spaces may only be scheduled 3 days in advance.
NOISE LEVEL
• Rooms are not soundproof. Do maintain a study-friendly environment. Keep conversations to a minimum and use headphones when listening to audio.
• Study spaces identified as “Quiet” must remain quiet, meaning no talking or discussion.
• Study spaces are not a lounge/social area to associate with friends.
• The common areas in front of study rooms, are also study areas. Please keep conversations at an appropriate level.
CLEANLINESS
• Keep the study room clean. Dispose of trash in the designated bins before leaving the space.
• Remove all items from the study space after a study session.
• University Apartment Building study spaces: If a student wants to leave items in the study space, place them in the cubby.
• Library study spaces: Use the designated breakroom to eat. NO FOOD is allowed in the other library study rooms. Cups and coffee mugs must have a cover. No open cups are allowed.
• All open food and drinks must be removed or discarded daily to prevent pests (e.g., roaches).
• Clean all food items out of the fridge each night. Items left will be discarded into the trash once a week.
• If you notice the trash is overflowing, DO NOT attempt to place or balance your trash on top. Find another trash can.
• Writing or sticking items (e.g., gum) on the walls, under tables, and other acts of vandalism of the study space is prohibited.
• The library and dorm study rooms are closed between 7 am-8 am Monday-Friday to be cleaned. Otherwise, housekeeping staff will not interrupt student sessions. Assuring an elevated level of tidiness is everyone’s responsibility.
• Please leave the study spaces tidier than you found them, as this benefits everyone.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS
• All personal belongings must be removed and trash disposed of before leaving the study space.
• AUC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
• Students should not "save space” by leaving personal items for extended periods. Other than a short trip to the restroom, all belongings should be taken when a student leaves the study space.
• Items left unattended for two (2) hours or more can be moved by others.
EQUIPMENT USE AND MAINTENANCE
• Use study room equipment (such as projectors and whiteboards) responsibly and report any damages or malfunctions to the I.T. Helpdesk [email protected]
• Report any infrastructural or building-related matters such as leaks, hearing and air problems, malfunctioning lights, and pests to [email protected].

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
• Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and procedures.
• Follow all instructions from campus security during emergencies.
• In case of a fire, do not use elevators, use designated stairways.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
• No weapons, illegal substances, or hazardous materials are allowed.
• Smoking, including vaping, is not allowed in the study spaces.
MODIFICATIONS
• No modifications or alterations should be made to the study room space. This includes attaching anything to walls, furniture, or equipment. The study spaces are AUC property and should not be tampered with.
• Do not move or rearrange furniture. Leave the room as you found it.
• Don't touch or tamper with items in the common area that are not yours
• No additional furniture is to be added to the study space; only AUC property is allowed.
RESPECTFUL AND PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR
• Treat the study room, its users, and university staff respectfully. Abusive or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and will be reported to the Dean of Student Affairs.
